Serendipity ~in Brazil~

SERENDIPITY (from the Oxford English Dictionary)
f. Serendip, a former name for Sri Lanka + -ity. A word coined by Horace Walpole, who says (Let. to Mann, 28 Jan. 1754) that he had formed it upon the title of the fairy-tale `The Three Princes of Serendip', the heroes of which `were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of'.　The faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident.

ブラジルのレンソイスという村にいたとき、ジェロニモというイタリア人に会った。彼はわたしに、明日、Guns and Rosesを見に行くんだけど、来ない？と誘ってきた。ふむふむ、大好きなことばが頭に浮かんだ：

why not?

バス二つ、一夜漬けでやっとたどり着いたブラジルの首都、ブラジリア。その晩、Guns and RosesのAxel Roseを見た。ジェロニモは私に、それは、serendipityだよ、と言った。

serendipityっておもしろいんだよね。実際いいことが天から落ちるようなことを意味するんだけど、実は目と、それよりも心を開けていないと見つからないの。そして、そこで一瞬のうちに行動しないと消えちゃう。頭で考える前に行動しなきゃいけないくらいに。でも私の経験からしてみれば、その行動の９９．９%は起こしてよかったと結果的に思うんだよね。

やればやるほどserendipityはよってくる。だからみんなもserendipityをのがさないように、目と心を開けていよう！そしてserendipityを目撃したら、勇気を出して思いっきりつかもうね！

P.S. Axel Rose、太ったおじさんになったかもしれないけど、WOW、なんというショー。やっぱりすごかった！
